Connie Bergeron, a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), decided to take the next step in her career and started her own site selection company, Site Selection Solutions in December of 2007.
Prior to that decision, Connie was with Benchmarc360° which she joined in 1999 as vice president of the Global Sourcing division after 22 years with Sheraton and 2 years with Interstate Hotels. Her team partners with national and regional associations, as well as corporate clients, to negotiate contracts for meeting and convention locations throughout the world.
In 1996, Connie was named International Supplier of the Year by Meeting Professionals International (MPI). She was selected from a field of 7,000 professionals for this coveted award. Connie was one of two industry professionals named an MPI Life Member in 2003 to recognize her twenty-plus years of contributions to the organization.
In addition, she received the Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE) President's Award in 1997, and the Hayward C. Cox, Jr. CMP Continuing Quality Award in 1998 that honored her 19 years as a volunteer leader for the Georgia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (GaMPI). In addition, Connie was named GSAE Corporate Member of the Year in 1996 and GaMPI Supplier of the Year in 1989.
Connie is also a popular writer and speaker. Her articles have appeared in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Southeast Association Executive, Meeting News, Convention South, the GaMPI newsletter BreakOut, and the GSAE newsletter GSAE Today.
She frequently addresses professional organizations including MPI International, the Society of Government Meeting Professionals, the Georgia Speakers Association, GSAE and GaMPI. Connie has served GaMPI as board member, president, vice president of education, and chair of the CMP study group.
Connie teaches for the University of Georgia (UGA) on site selection, contract negotiation and professional development. In 2000, she served on the Advisory Board that created UGA's first course in the Conventions and Meeting Planning program.
Connie has been designated an MPI International Platinum Series presenter on the CMP Process as well as being named to the Convention Industry Council's Project Attrition Task Force.
As a volunteer, Connie has helped coordinate other volunteers supporting the building of 13 Habitat for Humanity homes in Georgia where she works with outreach ministries to help the poor and homeless
